Publication Figure Panel Composer (300 DPI)
Journal-ready multi-panel figure layout with scale bars, panel lettering and high-resolution export.
How it works
Composes multi-panel figures at publication resolution with consistent panel lettering, scale bars calibrated to each image’s pixel size, and export at 300 DPI or higher. Panel dimensions can be matched to common journal column widths.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution do journals require for figures?
Most journals require 300 DPI for photographic images, 600 DPI for images containing text or line art, and 1200 DPI for pure line drawings. Vector formats are preferred for plots and diagrams because they stay sharp at any size. Resolution is measured at final printed size, so an image must be large enough in pixels to reach 300 DPI at the width it will be reproduced.
How do I add an accurate scale bar to a micrograph?
A scale bar is only meaningful if the image’s pixel size is known. Take the calibration from the microscope metadata or from an image of a stage micrometer taken with the same objective and camera, then draw a bar whose length in pixels corresponds to a round number of micrometres. Never copy a scale bar between images taken at different magnifications.
